Watch Alt-J sings Sam Smith and Disclosure’s Latch

A week after releasing their sophomore record “This Is All Yours” and having hit No.1 album in UK, British indie band Alt-J performed in the BBC1 Live Lounge yesterday.


While in the studio, they dropped a cover of Disclosure and Sam Smith’s “Latch,” the tune that launched the crooner’s career. Alt-J's Mercury Prize-winning debut album “An Awesome Wave” peaked at Number 13 following its release in May 2012.

Here, Alt-J gives the Sam Smith-assisted radio smash a subdued and fairly peculiar rendition. With a drum machine beat and tremulous synths, lead vocalist Joe Newman slightly changes the melody (all while reading the song’s lyrics), unable to throw his voice around with the deftness of Smith. Despite some not-quite-there harmonies, it’s still an intriguing listen and a refreshing take on a track that appears to be everywhere.
